CAREER NEWS – TERM 1

The Career Development Department has been busy meeting individually with each Year 12 student in Term 1, having that initial conversation about their desired future pathways and considering their post-school options. It has been fascinating to hear what journeys they want to embark on and while the destinations and even the journeys may change over the course of the next few years, I encourage parents to discuss these career journeys and encourage them with their research.

There is an amazing amount of information on our school career website:

There are articles for parents as well as links to job information and careers - please have a look!

This term we have also had the opportunity to bring in Elevate to speak to our Year 11 and 12 students. Year 11 spent one morning getting tips on Time Management and Year 12 had a session entitled “Ace Your Exams”. There will be two more Elevate sessions later in the year for these year levels, and we are encouraged by the feedback with regard to the success of the first sessions of the year.

A highlight of the term was our first official visiting speaker to present in the new Gymnasium - Mr Julian Hill, Federal MP for Bruce.

We first invited Julian to come to speak last year but with the lockdown we were unable to go ahead. He kindly honoured our invitation and we were able to secure a date that didn’t clash with his visits to Canberra for him to come and speak to our Year 12 cohort. He spoke about how he valued listening to young people and we certainly had many questions for him. He emphasised the importance of knowing your own values and voting for a party that aligned with these, whichever party that may be. We got an insight into what he actually did day to day in his work as a politician although he said it wasn’t really a job for him, as it was his passion and his hobby too!

This was a great event and we look forward to having more guests to speak to our students in the coming months.
